5 hectare dagga plantation masquerading as veggie farm uncovered
Dagga, SANDF uniforms, machetes seized in early morning raid on dagga plantation and hub in Babanango
Fourteen people, 10 of whom are foreign nationals, were arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning in a police raid on a dagga plantation in Babanango.
The intelligence-driven multidisciplinary operation included the involvement of SAPS Zululand District, Vryheid and Ulundi K9 units, Vryheid Search and Rescue, Home Affairs immigration officers, Zone 3 Task Team members and officers from the Ulundi Municipality Crime Prevention unit.

“The operation… was executed after intelligence uncovered approximately five hectares of dagga plantation masquerading as a vegetable farm” said KZN SAPS spokesperson Captain Ntathu Ndlovu.
“During the operation, 14 suspects were arrested, 10 of them were foreign nationals.”

Pieces of South African National Defence Force uniform, as well as machetes and processed cannabis were also found in the possession of the suspects.
The suspects, aged between 19 and 40 years old, will appear in the Babanango Magistrate’s Court soon.
