WATCH: All systems go for King Cetshwayo July horse racing extravaganza
High fashion meets horse racing thrill at upcoming King Cetshwayo July
It’s ready, set, saddle! the countdown begins for this year’s King Cetshwayo July.
The district is expected to be abuzz with activity when it hosts the two-day spectacular in Empangeni on Friday, 25 and Saturday, 26 July.
This year’s theme is Italian Equestrian Avant-Garde.

While the prestigious event is an annual boost for the local economy, with an anticipated influx of visitors, it also presents an opportunity for fashion designers and entertainers to showcase their craft.
“The King Cetshwayo July will have a far-reaching impact for the local economy, spanning the sporting, entertainment, fashion, small business, and accommodation and retail sectors in the district.
“We anticipate a diverse stream of economic opportunities for the hospitality industry, food vendors, fashion designers and tourism promoters,” said District Mayor Sikhumbuzo Dlamini.

“In previous years, every hotel in the City of uMhlathuze was booked out, and the public was treated to a dynamic display of attractions over the two days.
“This year, we hope to add greater value to the local economy.”
The festivities will kick off with a street carnival parade in Empangeni on Friday afternoon, followed by the crowning of Mr & Miss King Cetshwayo July later in the evening.
The main horse racing competition will get under way at the Empangeni Airfield on the Saturday.
“The King Cetshwayo July is aimed at celebrating the legacy of His Majesty King Cetshwayo kaMpande, after whom the district municipality is named, while promoting and preserving the tradition of the Zulu nation through indigenous horse riding,” said Dlamini.
