Brackenham accident claims one life

One person killed in accident involving three delivery vehicles in Richards Bay

A multi-vehicle accident during afternoon rush-hour in Richards Bay on Thursday sadly claimed one life.

The collision involving three light delivery vehicles occurred just after 4pm at the Brackenham intersection on the North Central Arterial R619 route.

According to reports from the scene, it is believed two of the vehicles had a head-on collision, while the third was rear-ended.

Mounties EMS and City of uMhlathuze Fire & Rescue were on scene, working to extricate one entrapped driver who had sustained critical injuries, and stabilising a further two who had sustained serious and minor injuries.

The critically injured patient was rushed to a nearby hospital, but sadly succumbed to injuries after arrival.

The seriously injured patient was also transported to hospital, while the occupant who had sustained minor injuries was taken to eNseleni Clinic.

The accident caused a major traffic backlog as emergency services carried out the work and cleared the scene.
