Zululanders in for wet wet wet summer
Summer outlook: SA Weather Service predicts above-average rainfall, minimum temperatures, with mixed bag of maximum temps
Northern KwaZulu-Natal is in for a wet summer, with above-average rainfall expected for the duration.
This is according to the latest seasonal climate watch issued on Tuesday by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

The wetter than average summer, going into late summer, is owing to the current neutral El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) moving towards a weak La Niña event.
“There are still some predictions that maintain a neutral state, however, a La Niña state is more likely and gaining confidence as we near the summer season,” reads the SAWS reports.

“The usual effect of La Niña on South Africa is for an increased likelihood to receive above-normal rainfall over the north-eastern parts of the country during summer.”
The report went on to say minimum summer temperatures are expected to be above-normal, with maximum temperatures forecast to be a mixture of above- and below-normal throughout South Africa.
“The spurious below-normal expectation of maximum temperatures is indicative of prolonged cloud cover over most parts of the summer rainfall areas and gives extra confidence in an above-normal summer rainfall season,” it concludes.
