WATCH: State employees caught at N2 roadblock

Health department drivers in hot water after being caught transporting furniture in state vehicles along the N2 near eSikhaleni

Two drivers employed by the KZN Department of Health are in hot water after they were caught red-handed transporting household furniture with State vehicles.

The pair were caught driving along the N2 north bound during the Road Safety Road Block Campaign on the N2 on-ramp near eSikhawini on Tuesday.

According to trip records seen by ZO on the scene, the vehicles were authorised and scheduled to transport a nurse from Ngwelezana Hospital to Mkhontokayise Clinic in Port Dunford.

However, these State employees were caught driving in the opposite direction.

City law enforcement officials said both vehicles would be impounded, and would only be released by the KZN Department of Health head office, once an investigation into the alleged abuse of State resources has been concluded.

Addressing officers at the roadblock, City Mayor Xolani Ngwezi emphasised that no one should be exempt from the law.

He added that government officials must also be held accountable when using the city’s road network.
