Memorial bike ride held for Richards Bay woman murdered in her own home
Shock and horror as Richards Bay woman is found dead in her bathroom
A Richards Bay woman, who was reported missing last week, was found dead in her bathroom on Thursday morning.
A suspect was on Saturday arrested in connection with the death of Sharon Uys.
Friends of Uys held a memorial bike ride on Sunday, from the Bay CBD to her home in Veldenvlei, finishing with a gathering at Richards Bay Rugby Club.
Well-known in the biking community, walking and fitness circles, Uys was described as a socialite who enjoyed spending time with others.

Last week, close friends became concerned after receiving messages from her phone that she would be away from home.
A missing persons report was circulated, which included a description of Uys’ vehicle.
Jan Page, a long-time friend who lives on the property, said it was suspicious for Uys to just leave.
“She had cats and would not leave them without saying anything or making provisions for them; she had never left in that way before,” explained Page.
“Sharon was a loving and nurturing person, always willing to help, even opening her home to others. Her friends are extremely close, she treats us like family, so it was disturbing to receive that message. Everyone became very concerned and the search for her began.”
Page said Uys had no local family; her husband Johnny passed away a few years ago.
“She earned a living off income from her rental properties and, four months ago, she took in a homeless person.
“This person inserted himself into her life and we knew he was no good,” said Page.
Page said Uys was missing from last Sunday to Tuesday last week, and this person was also gone, with Uys’ vehicle and appliances missing, adding that a suspect was apprehended in Pretoria on Saturday with Uys’ vehicle.
“Sharon was well loved and was the life of everywhere she went. She will be deeply missed, and we are heartbroken that her life ended in such a tragic way; found murdered in her house.”
Confirming the arrest, King Cetshwayo District SAPS spokesperson Captain Siyanda Nshangase said police are investigating a case of murder.
The suspect appeared in court on Monday.
