Cop nabbed for dagga possession

Durban police constable and two accomplices arrested in Ulundi after KZN police found 31 bales of dagga in their car

A POLICE constable was one of three suspects arrested for possession of dagga on Friday.

The Ulundi K9 unit received a tip-off about a car driving from Nongoma towards Ulundi along the R34, which was stopped by members from Ulundi and Mahlabathini SAPS.

KZN Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said during the search 31 bales of dagga were recovered.

“A police officer and his two accomplices were arrested. The driver was identified as a police constable who is a member of the Public Order Police in Durban. The suspects will appear in court soon,” he said.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of KZN, Major General Phumelele Makoba, applauded police for applying the law equally.

“For us to effectively fight crime, we must first clean ourselves from the inside.

“We cannot afford to have police officers breaking the very same law which they are supposed to uphold and enforce. I have directed that necessary internal disciplinary steps must be instituted against the officer, simultaneously with the criminal proceedings,” she said.
