A COLLABORATIVE effort between local NPO Nawe Zifunze Disabled Association and Gift of the Givers has helped improve the lives of community members in Mzingazi through a reading glasses project.
Coordinated by the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA), an environmental justice organisation based in South Durban, the initiative provided basic vision screenings and free reading glasses to community members in need.

SDCEA senior project officer: climate change Mbali Mthethwa said the campaign took place shortly after Women’s Day commemorations, making it particularly encouraging that most of the beneficiaries were women and children.
Eleven people received reading glasses, including women, children, persons with disabilities and other community members from the surrounding area.

“We are grateful to Gift of the Givers for supporting the initiative, and to Nawe Zifunze for hosting and connecting us with the community,” said Mthethwa.
Gift of the Givers provided the resources and reading glasses, while SDCEA coordinated the project and facilitated links with the community.
The initiative was hosted by Nawe Zifunze Disabled Association, which supports persons with disabilities across King Cetshwayo District.
