“NSRI Richards Bay crew were at sea conducting routine training 12 nautical miles offshore at the time, with the NSRI rescue craft Ocean Guardian, Spirit of Round Table II and the East Coast Relief Vessel,” said Richards Bay NSRI deputy station commander Manie le Roux.

Le Roux added that Rescue 19 Bravo was launched from the NSRI Richards Bay rescue base and deployed to the scene.

The crew established a towline to keep the casualty yacht away from danger in the channel.

“On arrival at the scene, the Spirit of Round Table II rescue craft was rafted alongside the casualty sailing vessel. The stricken vessel was taken to her moorings where she was safely secured. No further assistance was required,” said Le Roux.
