IFP PR councillor shot several times by unknown gunmen in front of his children in Gingindlovu
Political killings are in the spotlight after the death of uMlalazi Ward 17 councillor candidate, Khethelo Mdluli.
Mdluli (40), who had served as an IFP PR councillor since 2021, was shot several times by unknown gunmen in front of his children at his home in oPhindweni, Gingindlovu, on Thursday evening last week.
He succumbed to his wounds in hospital earlier this week.
IFP Provincial Chair Thami Ntuli said the party condemns the senseless act of violence.
“There can never be any justification for the taking of human life. The tragic death of Mdluli is deeply disturbing and once again highlights the devastating consequences of violence in communities and against those who seek to serve the public.
“KZN cannot allow violence to become a means through which political or any other differences are settled. Our democracy provides peaceful and lawful platforms for the resolution of differences. There can be no place for violence, intimidation and the senseless taking of human life,” said Ntuli.
He said every life lost to violence leaves behind a trail of pain and devastation for families, communities and society at large.
“We are deeply saddened that a family has once again been robbed of their loved one through violence.
The Mdluli family deserves answers, and those responsible for this brutal act must be identified and brought to justice,” said Ntuli.
He further called on police and all relevant law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and thoroughly in investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting and subsequent death of Mdluli.
“The investigation must be thorough and there must be no delay in ensuring those responsible are held accountable through the full might of the law,” he said.
