Richards Bay woman faces massive fraud charge

Ugandree Gobin charged with fraud, appears in Richards Bay Magistrate's Court

A local woman was granted R40 000 bail in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday after being charged with fraud, alternately theft, to the tune of over R1.5m.

Ugandree Gobin (40) was arrested on Thursday and held in custody for her first appearance on Friday morning and remanded in custody leading up to her formal bail application on Monday.

The conditions of bail include not interfering with any witnesses in the matter.

According to the court papers, between 2013 and 2019, Gobin defrauded Cina Getruida ‘Trudy’ van der Vlies by purporting to pay authorised beneficiaries and service providers for services rendered from the company account for Remax Marine. She was, in fact, paying monies into her personal account, amounting to more than R1.5m.
