Burst water pipe leaves eSikhaleni community without water for over a week

Residents in eSikhaleni have resorted to collecting water from nearby streams as the City of uMhlathuze’s water crisis continues to affect the area.

Supply was abruptly cut off on Tuesday following a burst pipe, leaving communities without access to water.

City of uMhlathuze Mayor Xolani Ngwezi said materials to replace the burst pipe are expected to arrive on site this afternoon (Tuesday).

He added that the contractor would require about 12 hours to complete the connection.

“I anticipate that, after pumping, people in the low-lying areas may start to receive water by late Thursday,” said Ngwezi.

In the meantime, Ngwezi urges residents receiving water through tankers to use the resource sparingly to ensure no one goes without.
