WATCH: Richards Bay detective’s sudden passing mourned

Tributes paid after passing of dedicated detective

COLLEAGUES from the Richards Bay Police Station gathered at the Veldenvlei Community Hall on Thursday to pay their respects to Detective Sgt Innocent Senzo Ndawonde.

The much-loved member, who was engaged in final preparations for his impending marriage, passed away suddenly last week after a brief illness.

Mourners were joined by members from a number of other police stations and units, as well as from representatives of government departments, including Justice, Transport and Education.

Having spent almost 15 years in the police force, Sgt Ndawonde (43) was at the time of his death a member of the special task team dealing with violent crimes.

Tributes were paid at the memorial service by Richards Bay Station Commander, Brig Brenda Mgenge, Col AM Sibiya, Lt-Col TC Mkhabela, Col ZA Sosibo and a representative of the SAPU union.

Chaplain N Mhlongo delivered a touching message of support and encouragement for the deceased’s family and friends while all speakers were unanimous in praise of the dedication, friendliness and hard work Sgt Ndawonde had demonstrated during his period of service.
