20th annual Sanca/ZO Walk Away from Drugs attracts over 400 participants
More than 400 people join annual Sanca/Zululand Observer Walk Away from Drugs event, promoting healthy choices and drug awareness.
AFTER a horrid Friday and before a rainy Sunday, the weather was calm and clear for the 20th annual Sanca/Zululand Observer Walk Away from Drugs event held from the Zululand Yacht Club grounds on Saturday.
And while many may have been scared off by the weatherman’s warnings for the weekend, just over 400 people – including two late busloads – made the effort to support the event.

Blessed again with wonderful sponsors, arrivals enjoyed free hotdogs courtesy of Bluff Meats and Lakeside SPAR, while the walk was preceded by a super self-defence exhibition by Sensei Kobus Riekert and his karateka team from Bonsai-Do, with the audience joining in to learn some moves.
This was followed by an energetic warm-up led by CaféGym before the participants hit the road, refreshed and entertained along the route to the Bay Hall at water tables hosted by Felixton College, whose marimba band added to the spirit, and Rare Power.
All participants received medals and fresh fruit at the finish, with Ocean Audio keeping the music vibe going all morning.
Adding to the occasion, Tiger Wheel & Tyre hosted a fun stall where young participants spun the wheel to win prizes.
All in all, a great day for a worthy cause, as youths enjoyed loads of fun and learnt more about the positive and negative choices in life.
