Body of man who drowned in Kruger National Park repatriated to Mozambique

A Mozambican national (26) who drowned in the staff village swimming pool in Skukuza, Kruger National Park, on Tuesday, has been repatriated after a post mortem was conducted on yesterday.

According to a provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Aldimiro Ismail Cossa, who was working for a contractor in the park, allegedly went to the pool to have a swim.

“Cossa jumped in the deep side and subsequently drowned. Security personnel were summoned to the scene where his body was retrieved about 20 minutes later. He was certified dead by a medical practitioner on the scene,” he said.

Mohlala also said no foul play is suspected, but the police are still conducting investigations.

The Kruger’s managing executive, Oscar Mthimkhulu, extended his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased. “This is an unfortunate incident. The resident doctor and other first responders were notified and tried all they could to save his life, but were unsuccessful. On behalf of the organisation, we extend our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends, and wish them strength during this difficult period.”
