Precious Sithole: "It is becoming unreasonable. Sometimes we are even tempted to skip some days and not come on campus to save some money."
California Nukeri: “It is especially hard because we have classes every day, so we have to be on campus. Travelling is really expensive now.”
Bheki Radebe: “Taxi fare goes up when petrol increases, but it never comes down. I think that is a bit unfair, even though there is not much that we can do about it.”
Ayanda Martin: “I feel like we are working just to afford transport. There isn’t much left for most people after you consider taxi fare or petrol.”
Teboho Walaza: “If it’s not VAT it’s petrol. The cost of living is rising but remuneration isn’t, so it is really becoming harder and harder to make ends meet.”
Tlokomelo Leutla: “It is really hard on us because as students we work on a budget. So the increase means that we have less money left over after transport costs.”
