Gogo has freedom to move around again

Tsakane - A generous donation has given Gogo Elizabeth Betty Shabangu (64) the freedom to be mobile.

After being confined to her house in Tsakane for 27 years due to her weight and size, Shabangu’s dream of being able to move around has finally been realised.

She was all smiles when the Gold One Modder East Mine presented her with a brand new wheelchair on Friday.

Now Shabangu does not have to depend on anyone.

Izak Marais chief operating officer from Gold One says the company cares about the challenges faced by the community and will do all in their power to help where they can.

Marais encouraged Shabangu to be part of the community discussions held with the aim to render help to the needy.

“The new wheelchair will help you be able to be part of the community discussions again,” says Marais.

Ward councillor Shimane Kodisang describes Shabangu as a pillar of the Tsakane community.

Kodisang says he has no doubt Shabangu will play an important role in ensuring the community’s development.

Filled with excitement, Shabangu thanked the company for the donation.

“My life has changed from today and I thank Gold One for giving me back my freedom to move around,” says excited Shabangu.
