Residents encouraged to clean the environment

Kwa-Thema – Different stakeholders in Duduza joined hands to clean Masechaba section last Saturday.
This was part of a clean-up campaign to promote environmental care.
Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said the objective of the initiative is to educate residents about the importance of preserving their environment.

“Keeping the environment clean should not only be left to authorities but the community at large should help as well.
“A clean community provides little space for criminals, such as drug peddlers, to find refuge,” he said.
Nelisiwe Kunene from the City of Ekurhuleni said the municipality has an obligation to collect refuse and the community has the responsibility not to litter.
“Littering is preventable and should be avoided at all times. Littering has a potential to spread diseases that can be easily transmitted by rodents to humans,” she explained.
