Back-to-school campaign off to a good start

Kwa-Thema – Thabiso Msipha’s back-to-school campaign, which he started with his friends, kicked off at Kwa-Thema Primary School on Friday.
The political activist, cricket coach and former learner presented the school with school shoes, T-shirts and trousers.

“As an active member of the community, I noted there is a need to assist those who are struggling.
“I have been to different schools and each time I was there I would see learners with no shoes or proper school uniforms.
“These little factors would tend to affect their performance at school,” explained Msipha.

He expressed with disappointment how Covid-19 has affected many households.
“Many parents have lost their jobs, which makes it even more difficult for them to afford basic needs.
“This is my way of doing my bit to help where I can.
“With these items, I want to build their confidence and make their learning experience pleasant,” he said.

He is urging people to help where they can instead of labelling people as ‘poor’.
“I started by donating two sets of school uniforms because I didn’t have much at the time.
“That made me realise that making a difference starts with one step.
“Now I will be going to different schools within Kwa-Thema to donate. Charity begins at home,” he said.

Uniform coordinator Lucia Tamsy Nonkelela said as a school they were grateful for such a beautiful gesture from one of their former learners.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to the guys for such an impactful contribution to our school.
“They are not only providing these learners with school shoes but contributing to their education while teaching them the spirit of ubuntu.
“Such contributions make a huge difference as some of our learners come from a previously disadvantaged background,” she said.
