Centre receives donations from Gauteng Department of Sport and Culture

Tsakani – The David Bopape Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre received a donation of educational books and toys on Monday from the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.
The centre stated the donation would help them with their learning recovery plan.
Daycare principal Rebecca Makhumane told African Reporter Covid-19 had a large impact on the organisation.
“We could not finish our curriculum, meaning our learners missed out on a lot.
“However, we have a plan of action to recover and these books could not have come at a better time,” she said.

In addition, two drawing boards were donated to the centre.
“In our centre, we pride ourselves on developing and preparing the young ones for school.
“For that to be possible we need as much support as possible, especially during this time of a global crisis.
“ECDs provide fundamental basics of education to our children.
“We do not simply focus on academic development but also physical and emotional development,” she added.
Josephine Kodisang, progamme librarian from the department of arts and culture, said parents should avoid buying children toy guns and knives.

“We don’t buy children guns and say when they grow up they should be policemen and women.
“It is important for parents to invest in the growth and development of children through educational and character-building toys and books.
“My team and I will continue to monitor the centre to ensure the learners get the best education,” she said.
The books will help the learners to catch up and remind them of what they have learnt.
