Foundation aims to empower the youth
The initiative is a youth-led peer-mentoring programme that offers Grade 12 learners mentors that will guide them when applying for university and funding.
Kwa-Thema – Locally based NPO Purpose Foundation aims to empower the youth through its Phambili initiative.
The NPO is the brainchild of Sindisiwe Moorosi, a 22-year-old resident from Kwa-Thema.
The initiative is a youth-led peer-mentoring programme that offers Grade 12 learners mentors who will guide them when applying for university and funding.

“The foundation was established on November 16.
“Our goal is to cater for the needs of a black child by providing opportunities, services and needed resources for them to achieve their goals, for a brighter future and to give back to the less fortunate in underprivileged townships,” explained Moorosi.
The organisation has pledged to work hand in hand with matriculants.
“In March, we embarked on a back-to-school programme targeting mostly Grade 12 learners.
“I also had the opportunity to present the initiative during a parents’ meeting at Kenneth Masekela Secondary School, where we handed out matric study guides to the Class of 2021,” she said.
Through the initiative, learners will also receive assistance with mathematics, physical science and English.

“These lessons will be done virtually unless necessary arrangements are made prior.
“A registration fee will be paid by the foundation to the top three achievers of Kenneth Masekela Secondary Class of 2021.
“Doors are open for any matric learner who wishes to be mentored, be assisted with tertiary applications or needs help with school subjects.
“I would like to encourage other foundations and the youth at large to volunteer and be part of this movement to give back to our society.
“Support from other organisations would be highly appreciated as well,” said Moorosi.
