Xhosa/Zulu Reservoir may be completed soon

On April 1 the structure seemed to be closer to completion.

After starting in 2016, the construction of the Xhosa/Zulu Reservoir may finally be nearing completion.
In January, the City of Ekurhuleni stated the project would be concluded in April.
When work began, the municipality’s water and sanitation department had allocated R11-million for the project.
In the Sixth Ordinary Mayoral Committee Meeting for 2017, the metro adjusted the R11-m budget to R48-m.

The metro then claimed a new contractor was appointed on November 30, 2018, on a R32 510 793.77-m budget.
“The budget for the project has not changed,” insisted Zweli Dlamini, spokesperson for the metro.
“Delays were caused by a country-wide steel shortage. There is still a reinforcement shortage in the country, which will lead to further delays.”

The construction of the new reservoir in Tsakani was set to be completed in May. Photo was taken on June 24 last year as work continues.

In response to a media enquiry in November 2019 Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, head of communications and media relations for the metro, said the completion date would be May this year.
