Residents put their sewing skills to good use

Springs resident Lerato Namane Msomi is playing her part in keeping the community warm as winter is almost upon us.

Kwa-Thema – Springs resident Lerato Namane Msomi has recruited three of her siblings for her knitting for charity project.
The project started at the beginning of March and aims to provide homes and less fortunate residents with handmade scarves and hats in Kwa-Thema, Springs and surrounding areas.

“Most people focus on donating blankets during winter, which is a good thing.
“However, we also ought to consider that people cannot go about their daily business with those blankets.
“People have places to go and need warm clothing to keep them warm as they go about their day.
“That’s the reason I have focused on scarves and hats,” explained Msomi.
The foursome is encouraging organisations and people in need to contact them.
They have also extended an invitation to community members who would like to join them.
“The goal is to work with the community at large to try to make a difference in our society.
“We are also in need of people who have an interest in sewing to join us regardless of whether they have any experience or not.
“We are in search of organisations that need scarves and hats.
“Our target at the moment is about 50 to 100 people this winter.”

She is pleading with the community to assist with sewing materials or donations as they are funding this project from their own pockets.
