Peermont boosts Ekasi FM to migrate to digital broadcasting

Tsakani – Ekurhuleni Peermont Chambers of Commerce Trust (EPCoCT) has invested over R300 000 towards Ekasi FM’s migration from analogue to digital broadcasting through the use of more specialised studio equipment and component parts.
The 24-hour station, based at the Faranani Multi-Purpose Centre, employs 40 people who are learning the trade and broadcasting to the greater Ekurhuleni region.
It reaches Springs, Duduza, Kwa-Thema, Brakpan, Geluksdal, Benoni and Daveyton and broadcasts in major languages most prevalent in the catchment areas, such as isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sesotho and English.

Makomane Ntabo, the trust administrator at Peermont, said the station approached the trust with a business plan for them to get involved in helping the station by sponsoring the much-needed equipment for migration.

Velly Nxumalo, the station manager, said the migration from analogue to digital will help the station increase its listenership and revenue.

“The new equipment will enable the station to reach the entire geographic area our station targets, unlike with the old equipment, which was of inferior quality, resulting in poor transmission.
“The power of broadcasting has come to the forefront with the recent effect of Covid-19 and EKFM 103.6 is pioneering a new generation of broadcasters.
“We prioritise information, education, entertainment and development of the previously disadvantaged communities by empowering them with knowledge and opportunities,” added Ntabo.
