Classmates reunite to give back to the community

The group of former pupils were excited to get back together for a good purpose and hope that this will inspire community members to join them in giving back to the community.

Organisers Lebohang Ximba, Kelebohile Maja, Ofentse Moeketsi and Vusimuzi Mabena were thrilled the event was a success.

Former learners of JE Malepe Secondary reunited last Saturday afternoon to raise funds for the community.
One of the organisers, Vusimuzi Mabena, said the purpose of the event was to unite, celebrate and reconnect former school mates, and together contribute to their community and former school in the best possible way.
They raised funds through a R30 entry fee. Mabena mentioned that they’ll be adding the day’s funds to what they’ve already raised before the reunion.
“The funds will be going towards purchasing essential items like school shoes and uniforms for beneficiaries from our former school.
“We would also love to support other projects within our area, if there are funds left over,” said Mabena.

This was the first event by the JE Malepe class and they said they’ll be working on more projects that will benefit the community.
“We are focusing on the children’s school essentials for now and believe this will have a positive impact on their families at home,” said Mabena.
The group of former learners were excited to get back together for a good cause.
“We are hoping to inspire each other to continue making a difference.
“The reunion offered us an opportunity to gather and talk about issues affecting our community and how we can help,” said Mabena.

They urged community members of Tsakani and former learners of other schools to not shy away from uniting and giving back to their communities.
“We hope and trust that through their afforded opportunity to do good for others, they will take the opportunity not only to just give, but also to share resources to empower the youth,” concluded Mabena.
