Drug addicts suspected to be responsible for church burglary

Duduza -Nyaope addicts are stopping at nothing to feed their addiction, and even churches are not spared.
Addicts are believed to be responsible for breaking into St John Apostolic Faith Mission in Duduza, last Wednesday morning.
The culprits stripped the church of valuable assets, including the bell it bought when it opened its doors in 1967, and curtains that cover the pulpit.
This is the third time the church has been broken into since the beginning of this year. The church has been burgled of wheelchairs, walkers, a first aid kit, steel baths and urn kettles, and even decorations from the wall.
The regular break-ins have pushed away patients who used to stay in the boarders’ rooms from the church premises.
Recovering drug addicts ready to rebuild their lives
The entrance to the church is covered with signs reading ‘Pasop, we are watching you’.
Pastor Christopher Tabudi (74) claims it is the addicts who are stripping the church of resources and material.
“Some of our patients come to the church in frail conditions; we need the wheelchairs to transport them,” he explained.
Tabudi added that he suspects the culprits are some of the children who grew up in the church.
“They know where all the valuable assets are stored and how to access the church. We have tried to secure the church premises with metal security gates but they break the windows and force access into the building,” he explained.
Tabudi added the church is ready to help the addicts clean up their acts.
“We have the means to help them fight their addiction to become responsible citizens again. It breaks our hearts seeing some of the young people who grew up in the church turn into prisoners of drugs,” he added.
