Tsakani police raid schools
An empty liquor bottle was also found, which indicates some learners are consuming alcohol on school premises.
Tsakani – As part of safer school intervention, Tsakani police raided Reshegofaditshwe Secondary School and Mamellong Secondary School on Tuesday.
The programme is aimed at removing illegal items and monitoring whether Covid-19 regulations are being adhered to.
This was carried out in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education East district, the Department of Community Safety, police stations within Ekurhuleni East Zone Three, the EMPD, Gauteng Traffic, patrollers and CPF.

Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said they found knives, dagga, lighters, rolling paper and cigarettes in learners’ bags, on the floor, in dustbins and behind chalkboards.

“The random searches will be carried out at other schools to ensure that our schools are safe and nothing threatens the safety of learners and educators,” she added.
