Committee wants to revive art

Langaville – Ward 79 sports coordinator Sakkie Kgaphola and his subcommittee members want to revive art.
They are calling on artists, specifically the youth, to join their weekly meetings at the Sanco office in Extension Eight Proper.
Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 4pm.
Their youngest subcommittee member, Delron Makofa (22), is a self-taught sketcher.
He has been sketching for three years and has dreams to one day own his gallery.

Makofa said his passion and interest in art has always been there. However, he only started investing in his craft post matric.
He explained that art is an expressive tool for many.
“I have witnessed lives being changed through art.
“We are surrounded by art everywhere and anywhere in the world.
“Art speaks, it heals and gives.
“For me, that’s how dreams are made,” he said.
He is urging other artists to join the committee as they work to showcase and promote local talent.

Makofa also voiced that lack of equipment is a challenge, not just for him but others as well.
“I would like to plead with our community members to help local artists with art equipment, like like paint, brushes, pencils, sketch boards, among other things.
“The aim is to host exhibitions at least once every six months where local artists can have a showcase,” he explained.
