Learning programme aims to empower learners

Tsakani – Matshidiso Silinda (48), founder of We Can Do This Community Project, is pleading with the community for donations of stationery.
The initiative aims to assist primary school learners, including Grade R, with homework, reading, life skills and social development.
It is based in Extension 12B.
Silinda has an Early Childhood Development Programme certificate and is currently completing her matric at the Tsakani Adult Centre.

“I am a firm believer that education has the power to open closed doors, and age doesn’t matter. One simply needs to focus on their goals,” she said.
She started the programme in 2018 with the hope to assist children, help working parents who come home late and children who are residing with their grandparents.
“We do a variety of educational activities. It is important to invest in a child’s education.
“I believe one of the ways to do that is by taking interest in their academics and go through the learning process with them,” she explained.
They operate Monday to Friday from 2pm until 5pm.
She said the programme has enabled the learners to improve their general knowledge, attention span and concentration and has expanded their vocabulary.
They also participate in debates.
