
Kwatsaduza- As part of the commemorations of OR Tambo Month, the metro will be hosting various activities during October.
The fallen stalwart, Oliver Reginald Tambo, was born on October 27, 1917, in Bizana in the Eastern Cape.
He was an anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who died in 1993 at the age of 75 after suffering a stroke.
At the time of his death, he was a resident of the City of Ekurhuleni.
He is buried alongside his wife Dr Adelaide Tambo, another revolutionary, at the Tamboville Cemetery in Wattville, Benoni.

The Tambos along with the late Chris Hani conferred the Freedom of the City of Ekurhuleni in 2003.
The metro’s planned activities include:
• OR Tambo Choral Music Workshop and Seminar set to take place on October 27 and 28, with October 29 set aside for the main event at the OR Tambo Cultural Precinct.
Choirs wishing to participate in this event are informed that the closing date for entries is October 14.
• A panel discussion, debates and public speaking competition for school learners will take place at the Boksburg council chamber on October 22
• The main event is the wreath-laying ceremony set for October 27, which is Oliver Tambo’s birthday, at the Tambo memorial site in Wattville
• To conclude the month-long activities, the city will host the OR Tambo Soncini social cohesion games during the weekend of October 29 and 30 at the Germiston Stadium.
The metro encourages members of the public to join the activities as they are mainly aimed at celebrating the city’s rich heritage.
