Matshidiso Selebeleng has joined the African Reporter newsroom as an intern. The 24-year-old is a third-year journalism student from the Tshwane University of Technology.
“I am originally from Inhoek, a remote village in the Free State where access to technology and civilisation is next to non-existent,” she said.
“My love for writing was developed and nurtured by my high school English teacher from Libertas Combined School.
“During a career expo in my matric year, I learnt there is more to journalism than just broadcasting. I learnt there is also print and multimedia journalism where I can channel my writing skills.
“After enrolling for my diploma in journalism with the Tshwane University of Technology, I was exposed to many different fields and knew this was where I belonged.
“Working with different communities has taught me that, as a journalist, you are their voice. We are the messenger between the community and their leaders, and ours is to create and bring balance by reporting fairly.”
