Centre achieves more than just final year results
Learning centre achieved 82% in mathematics.
The Kwa-Thema Community Learning Centre (CLC), formerly the Kwa-Thema Adult Centre, came out tops in the Student Achiever Awards hosted by the Gauteng Community Education and Training (CET) College at the South-West Gauteng Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College (Technisa Campus) in Randburg, Johannesburg, last Thursday.
The categories for the awards included:
• Student Academic Excellence Award – for students who obtained 80% and above in their studies;
• Students Community Support Services (SCSS) Impact Award – for best performing SCSS lecturer per cluster;
• Principal’s Award – for the best-performing centre manager per cluster.
Kwa-Thema CLC received awards in two categories – Top Student Achiever 2022, won by Wiseman Sibuyi, who obtained 82% for mathematics and the Principals Award for the manager.

The CLC is based at Lefa-Ifa Secondary School and offers Adult Basic Education and Training (Abet) tuition Level One (equivalent to Grade Nine) to Four (equivalent to Grade 12).
Centre manager Lindiwe Sondiyazi said, “On Completion of Abet Level Four, our students are qualified to register for the Grade 12 senior certificate.
“We also accept National Senior Certificate (NSC) matric re-writes for those who want to improve their results.”
Last year, the centre achieved a 78% pass rate in Level Four, 56 students received General Education and Training Certificate (GETC) qualification, and 70% in Grade 12 senior certificate (SC) and NSC, hence the centre was nominated as the best-performing centre in Ekurhuleni for 2022.
“Despite the challenges of not having our own centre, our classes run from 15:00 – 18:30, and our lecturers are committed and hardworking,” concluded Sondiyazi.
