WATCH: Performers had fun on Saturday at Monty Motloung Hall
Organisation raises funds for transport, food and costumes
Duduza – Performances and fun were the order of the day on Saturday when Ukukhanya Kwe John Dube hosted a fundraising concert at Monty Motloung Hall in Dududza.
The organisation invited groups to perform different activities, including drama, kofifi, pantsula, amapiano and more.
Pamela Yvonne Mhlungu, the chairperson of the organisation, said, “We are from a township which is infested by drugs and also crime and teenage pregnancy.
“We then thought it would be good to have this arts and culture group to assist in removing young girls from the street so they don’t get involved in drugs and sex at a young age, which may lead to teenage pregnancy.”
Mhlungu said they are helping young people, especially girls, to stay virgins, to be independent young women and to have more self-esteem and do bold decision-making.
“We are also planning to invite young boys to be part of the organisation and keep every young person away from the street,” said Mhlungu.

According to Mhlungu, most parents are unemployed, making it difficult for them as a group to afford transport, food and costumes when invited to perform in other areas, which was the main purpose of the fundraiser.
The Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts and Culture and Recreation gave a trophy to Ukukhanya kwe John Dube for best performance and the Hlokomela Group from Standerton gave us medals for participants coming from another province to grace the event.
The organisation runs after school and rehearsal for arts and culture activities including drama, poetry, kofifi, Sarafina and also amapiano dances at Healing Power and Deliverance Ministry Church at John Dube.
