Hijackers sentenced to 45 years imprisonment
Two Kwa-Thema men were sentenced to 45 years for hijackings.
Kwa-Thema – Thulani Mhlabi (34) and Thulani Sibeko (32) were each sentenced to 45 years imprisonment for hijackings in Kwa-Thema.
At the time of the crimes, the two were out on parole for murder, for which they were sentenced to 20 years.
Kwa-Thema Police spokesperson Sergeant Nkululeko Magudulela said the suspects were stopped and arrested by the members of the Gauteng Highway Patrol in Tsakani on September 5, 2020.
“The duo was found in possession of a silver Ford Fiesta, reported hijacked on August 31, 2020, in Kwa-Thema. At the time, there were three occupants in the car and one evaded capture,” he added.

The investigating officer of the Trio Task Team in Kwa-Thema, Sergeant Nkhatho Raseboka, led the investigation and discovered the duo was possibly involved in two other hijackings in the area.
The investigation led to the pair being positively identified by two other victims after a Mazda II and VW Polo were hijacked between August 28 and September 4, 2020.
The suspects were charged with the possession of a hijacked motor vehicle and the illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm.
They were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for all three counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The duo will serve 45 years on top of the remaining 20 years when paroled for murder.
