Fallen Ekurhuleni councillors remembered
Council whip Jongizizwe Dlabath said, as public servants, they will recommit themselves to serving communities.
Kwatsaduza – The late councillors were honoured at a wreath-laying ceremony at The Tree of Remembrance at the OR Tambo Government Precinct in Germiston on Wednesday.
This day of remembrance is when the city remembers the fallen heroes and heroines who selflessly served their communities.
Fourteen families of fallen city councillors attended.
Among those remembered were the former mayor of Ekurhuleni, Duma Nkosi, and former MMC for Finance Moses Makwakwa.

Whip of council Jongizizwe Dlabathi gave a tribute and words of encouragement to the families and residents of Ekurhuleni.
He described these fallen heroes and heroines as giants whose legacies and strong foundations remain.
“We gather on this day to recommit ourselves to serve our communities and ensure that we deliver a stable and well-functioning city with uninterrupted services to the residents of Ekurhuleni,” he said.
Other councillors remembered were Bruce Reid, Nomsa Phakathi, Eva Ngcwana, Simon Mokhethoa, Albert Makhubela, Greg Malebo, Tshepiso Mondlane, Zwelibanzi Ngwenya, Sylvia Nhlabathi, Peter Molapo and Gerrie Kriek.
