Members of the EMPD educate residents about the dangers of child neglect

"Child neglect is known as the failure to meet a child's basic physical and emotional needs."

Kwa-Thema – Members of the EMPD’s Social Crime Prevention Unit engaged with community members of the Skoonplaas informal settlement on Monday to raise awareness about child neglect.

The initiative is aimed at combating social ills in communities and Skoonplaas residents were the first beneficiaries of the campaign.

Ekurhuleni spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa said with the number of campaigns rolled out by the Social Crime Prevention Unit officers in recent weeks, the focus was moved to children that are being neglected by their parents.

“Child neglect is known as the failure to meet a child’s basic physical and emotional needs. The EMPD saw a need to engage communities throughout the City of Ekurhuleni to help limit all these social harms.

“The EMPD calls on the support of community members to help reduce social ills of this nature by reporting it to the relevant authorities,” she added.
