Help friends get wheelchairs
It is very difficult for me to push this wheelchair or do basic things because my hands can barely move.
Kwa-Thema – The disabled friends Fana Mnguni and Saul Phakathi are pleading for donations of electric wheelchairs.
Both of them rely on wheelchairs to get around. Fana (63) lives with his younger sister and her child, and Saul (43) lives with his brother, sister and nephews.
Fana was born without disabilities, but doctors discovered he had polio, and because of this, he did not get to go to school.
“It is very difficult for me to push this wheelchair or do basic things because my hands can barely move. I need an electric wheelchair. It would help me a lot,” he explained.

Their difficulties in moving around have made them vulnerable to criminals.
Fana’s neighbour Tebogo Miya said, “He struggles so much in his everyday life that even going to the clinic to get his medication is a serious challenge.
“When going to fetch his grant money, he has to ask random people to push him, and he ends up being robbed.”
Tebogo told African Reporter how a wheelchair would change Fana’s life and said he would not have to depend on anyone for help.

Saul was born disabled but could walk. He completed matric and worked as an administrative officer in Mpumalanga.
In 2015, he was diagnosed with bone tuberculosis and has been wheelchair-bound since then.
Saul’s sister Lindi Phakathi said the wheelchair would help her brother be independent and make his life easier because the one he currently uses is challenging for him.
After all, his hands do not work correctly. For more information on how to help, contact Thabo Miya on 079 064 6106.
