Tsakani runner celebrates his 105th parkrun
Runner encourages older people to join the run.
Tsakani– Seasoned runner Thabo Tsotetsi ran his 105th parkrun at the Faranani Multi-Purpose Centre on Saturday.
The parkrun event is a free, weekly 5km run that takes place in different parks and public spaces all around the world.
Everyone can take part in this non-competitive event, from walkers to seasoned runners. The event is run by volunteers and intended to encourage community wellness and physical fitness.
Tsotetsi (47) is an athlete from Duduza Athletic Club. He uses parkrun to train.
“I am ecstatic and I feel special, to say the least. I am proud of myself to have achieved this milestone. Right now my target is to reach 150 which would make me really happy,” he said
Thabo continued to say that since childhood he has always liked running and he never stopped taking part in parkruns as they help keep him strong.
“These parkruns play a big role in my training and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as an athlete. I encourage elderly people to partake because it will benefit them and they will love the results,” he said.
At present, there are 199 parkrun events taking place every weekend throughout the country, and new locations are constantly being added.
