Two raped in Duduza over the weekend
The Duduza police are concerned about the rising number of rape cases.
Kwa-Thema – The police are investigating a case of sexual assault after the attempted rape of a 19-year-old woman by a man known to her on Thursday on Angola Street, Bluegumview.
The victim, a vendor who sells washing powder, was on her way to collect money from her clients when the man approached her.
He invited her to his place of residence under the pretence that his wife wanted to buy washing powder.
Duduza police spokesperson Sergeant Harry Manaka said on her arrival at the house, the man invited her inside to speak to his wife.

“To her surprise, he began touching her body, then pushed her onto the couch and insisted on undressing her.
“She screamed for help, managed to grab a pen and stabbed him in the hand, but the male was too powerful.
“She managed to flee the scene and reported the matter to the police. The man was sought but not found,” he added.
The investigation continues, and an arrest is soon expected. Manaka added that sexual offences are a concern for the residents of Duduza. Over the weekend, the police registered two cases of rape.

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old woman was raped by two men at the old Duduza taxi rank on Nala Street.
The incident took place on Saturday at about 20:30. The pair confronted the victim as she walked alone behind the shops.
They threatened her with a knife and dragged her into the abandoned taxi rank to take turns raping her. The duo also robbed her of cash.
Police are searching for the culprits and appealed to anyone with information about the incident to contact the Duduza police on 011 810 6093.
