Local DJ on his way to the top

Amapiano DJ sets his eyes on becoming an international sensation

Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema amapiano DJ, Xolani Masilela, has turned his back on his sports career in pursuit of a future in deejaying.

In 2021 Xolani reintroduced himself as an amapiano DJ who plays commercial and exclusive music.

The former Valke player is known to his fans as Cooh_leigh. The 24-year-old has since become a resident DJ for Capello.

Xolani said his first gig was at Cappello Birchleigh North, which was the most beautiful moment in his life since he became a DJ.

He is now their resident DJ where he is mastering his talent.

“This is where I met other artists who helped me improve my skills in production. I started producing music with artists like Citykingrsa, Welle, Naco, and Uncle_Crazy and dropped my first project with them called AmaCamera,” he said.

The artist told the publication that his biggest dream is to make an impact in the amapiano industry and take it to the next level.

He knows that amapiano is an international sound and he will use his sound to make it even more fun.

“I want it to keep playing like hip-hop and not fade away like other genres. Since it has made it internationally, I would love for it to stay that way.

“This is a South African sound. South African artists must be recognised just like the overseas hip-hop artists,” said Xolani.

Since his DJ career started he has worked alongside big artists such as Felo Le Tee, Readasoul, Mellow, and Sleazy.

He is working on a soulful amapiano EP with Citykingrsa which they are planning to drop soon.
