Kwa-Thema dog trainer offers his trained animals to root out drugs in the townships
Thulani Manana said it is every citizen’s responsibility to fight crime because residents are at the mercy of criminals who had taken over the streets.

Kwa-Thema – Dog breeder and trainer Thulani Manana offered his trained dogs to be added as an extension of the crime prevention wardens in Ekurhuleni to root out drugs and find missing people in the informal settlements.
The crime prevention warden initiative was launched two weeks ago by the Premier of Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, to help fight crime in the identified areas, which include hostels and informal settlements.
Manana took an interest in training dogs in Grade Seven after the dog unit visited his school.
In 2012/2013, he worked for the Brakpan SPCA, where he fell in love with animals and identified their potential to help fight crime.

“I am concerned about the escalating crime, especially where young people are kidnapped, killed and cases of drugs.
“It pains me that police have to wait for the sniffer dog unit based in Germiston to respond to cases and scenes in Kwa-Thema while I have fully trained dogs ready to help,” he said.
He added that it is every citizen’s responsibility to fight crime as residents are at the mercy of criminals who have taken over the streets.
“I don’t have much to offer but my trained dogs that will sniff out the drugs, making the police’s work easy in removing the drug dealers off our street,” he added.
