Kwa-Thema and Langaville – On Friday the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Sivuyile Ngodwana with MMCs and councillors visited Kwa-Thema as part of the Mayoral Friday Service Delivery campaign.
The committee visited a sewage pump in Ext 2 where the pump is malfunctioning due to blockages caused by foreign objects thrown into the sewer system.
The foreign objects include but are not limited to clothes, utensils and animal carcasses.
Ngodwana said as part of the measures to deal with the problem, a pump will be put in on a higher level than it is now so that it doesn’t immediately suck up the rubbish which comes from the drainage system and that will be a temporary measure.
“There is a long-term plan to do away with this system, which will be to remove the pump from the residential area, however, that is a capital plan that needs consultants,” he said.
The outreach convoy then moved to Langaville Ext 8 where residents are plagued by their yards flooding during the rainy season.
The mayor committed to having public works deal with the issue, however, he gave no time frame.
While in Langaville, Ward 79 Clr Njabulo Mbonani raised that there is a street that struggles with power cuts and that whenever there is load-shedding, they struggle to get power back on and usually have to wait for up to 12 hours before restoration.
The mayor said he will deploy technicians to look into the matter as a temporary measure. He pleaded with the councillor to speak to residents to stop bypassing electricity and start buying electricity.
