Ekurhuleni chief whip Jongizizwa Dlabathi implicated in protest in Kwa-Thema

In his response, Dlabathi dismissed the accusation.

Kwa-Thema – As Kwa-Thema residents still sit in the dark, political parties find themselves at the centre of the series of protests.

The regional PAC implicated the Ekurhuleni chief whip, Jongizizwe Dlabathi, in the middle of the power outage chaos.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a group of disgruntled residents took to the streets in an attempt to shut down Kwa-Thema, demanding answers relating to electricity and transformers.

Their mission was interrupted by a group of uMkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) members who allegedly assaulted the protestors and fired shots.

PAC regional secretary in Ekurhuleni, Vumani Makhanya, said it is in disbelief that a peaceful march was turned into a political battlefield by members of the MKVA practising how to use a gun publicly, threatening and assaulting the community.

“It is a barbaric and gangster attitude that those who disagree with the march resort to firearms to fight the peaceful march.

“The PAC in Ekurhuleni suggested that legal cases should be opened against the thugs who dislodged four rounds of bullets when Tshepo Mwelase was assaulted,” he added.

In his response, Dlabathi dismissed the accusation.

“I came to assess the development around the electricity, given that there was a march. I went in my capacity as the whip and not as the ANC regional chairperson, as falsely purported by the PAC statement,” he added.
