Jobe Foundation launches school sports
A school sports league was launched to fight social ills
Duduza – The Jobe Foundation launched a school’s league to fight social ills on Friday at the Duduza Reconciliation Park.
The league aims to get learners involved in sports to avoid social ills, drugs and other substances, teenage pregnancy, and bunking of classes.
Whitey Ntsikelelo Tshowa, the Tsakani Social Cohesion Games tournament director, said Siphiwe Jobe approached him after the Tsakani games. Jobe told him many ills could be combated through sports and suggested they start the league.
“We had a series of meetings with the foundation’s chairperson before the launch, who took the initiative to try building a better tomorrow for the learners.
“The children must be happy to be at school because there are many things they can do, such as sports,” he said.
Education officials were also at the launch, and the children showed happiness and eagerness for the games to start.
“We thank the foundation for the good initiative and for allowing our learners to showcase their talent,” Tshowa concluded.
The games for primary schools will start on August 15 and be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays. High schools will start on August 16 and play on Wednesdays and Fridays.
After the season, the winning schools will receive prize money. The schools will participate in netball and soccer.
