Learners taught cricket basics while having fun
One-hundred-and-sixty children participated in the mini-cricket festival.
Duduza – Children from various schools enjoyed the mini-cricket regional festival hosted by the Duduza Cricket Club on Wednesday at the Duduza Multipurpose Centre.
Ten out of 12 schools from Duduza attended and participated in the games.
Duduza mini cricket coordinator Mbali Buthelezi said, “We asked the schools to each bring two teams, a girls’ and a boys’ team. We had 160 learners as part of our games and 22 teachers.”
Gauteng East District Sports Unit Department officials also attended the event.
“We are grateful they (officials) took their time for the first time to be part of the event and also provided us with refreshments, lunch and medals of participation for the learners,” said Buthelezi.
All the participating learners were U9.
“Mini-cricket aims to provide a game of cricket in its simplest form for boys and girls and, at the same time, provide enjoyment.
“From a teacher’s perspective, it also gives all learners, irrespective of ability, an equal opportunity while providing physical education in schools in an enjoyable form,” Buthelezi concluded.
