Mother (26) fatally wounded in Geluksdal while breastfeeding
A man fired shots through the car windows as Siphesihle Twala was breastfeeding her son.
Tsakani – Siphesihle Twala (26) was shot and killed outside her sister’s house in Geluksdal on October 31.
Twala was sitting in the passenger seat of her sister’s car, breastfeeding her one-year-old son, when an unknown man approached the vehicle.
Siphesihle’s older sister, Faith Mavuso said, “The man demanded cellphones. My other sister, who was in the driver’s seat, immediately locked her car.
“The man rushed to the front window as if looking for something. He did not harm the driver but immediately started firing shots towards Siphesihle. Children were playing outside and witnessed the incident,” said Mavuso.
Siphesihle was shot four times in her upper and middle body. Faith cited the traumatic incident left Siphesihle’s son in shock, adding one bullet-scarred the one-year-old son on the nose.

She expressed her sadness by explaining her sister’s character, saying Siphesihle was a quiet and down-to-earth individual who loved laughing and always refrained from fighting.
“This incident has left us with so many questions and all we seek is justice for Siphesihle.
“She did not deserve to die like that. We hope the police will do their work and find us all the answers we are looking for.
“We will forever love and miss Siphesihle; our hearts are broken. We urge anyone with information to give it to the police,” Faith added.

Tsakane police confirmed that officers on duty on October 31 received a phone call from Pholosong Regional Hospital informing them of an unnatural death that had occurred at about 15:45.
“On arrival, hospital personnel showed the officers the body of a woman with several gunshot wounds.”
Ekurhuleni SAPS spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela confirmed the woman was a passenger in her sister’s car when an unknown armed man approached them, who demanded cellphones from them and fired several shots through the windows,” said
Sekgobela added the victim sustained serious injuries and her sister took her to the hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
“The police are investigating a murder case. No one has been arrested yet,” added Sekgobela.
