Nkosinathi Zwane builds platforms for township youth empowerment

His work reflects a consistent mission to empower township youth and elevate grassroots initiatives into sustainable, recognised platforms.

In the heart of Kwa-Thema, a new generation of township leadership aims to reshape how communities tell their stories, build businesses, and create opportunity.

Nkosinathi Zwane (30) is a social entrepreneur and PR strategist widely known as the “Township Hustler.”

Zwane is steadily carving out a name for himself in South Africa’s creative economy through a blend of media innovation, sports development, and community-driven entrepreneurship.

His work reflects a consistent mission to empower township youth and elevate grassroots initiatives into sustainable, recognised platforms.

“I have always believed that real impact starts where you are. Kwa-Thema shaped me, and everything I do is about giving back, building systems, and creating access for others,” he explained.

Zwane founded Umsindo Innovation Hub, a public relations and brand management company focused on elevating emerging talent, businesses, and community initiatives.

He is also the driving force behind Township Hustler Speaks, an organisation dedicated to sports development and youth upliftment through structured programmes and storytelling.

His work in media and communication extends further through his role as presenter of the Eastrand Podcast File, a platform amplifying local voices, and as a media liaison for organisations such as the Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation, Ballers FC, and Nomndayi Community Games.

“Through these roles, I have positioned myself as a connector between township-based initiatives and wider media exposure while ensuring that local stories are not only told but recognised.

Zwane’s work has directly supported the growth and visibility of more than 62 businesses and eight organisations, including Ekasi Fashion Week, Ballers FC, Mwari Pizza House, Thuto Private School, Estudios Africa, and the Nkosinathi Mbonani Foundation.

Zwane’s approach combines strategic public relations, storytelling, and brand positioning to help township-based enterprises move from informal recognition to structured, market-ready identities.

“One of my most notable milestones is my appointment as Chief Operating Officer of Estudios Africa, a stock footage platform focused on authentic African storytelling.

“The platform provides creatives with opportunities to monetise visual content rooted in African identity and lived experiences.

“This role is bigger than me. It is about representation and creating a platform where our stories are valued and can generate income for creators who look like us,” he cited.

Despite Zwane’s growing influence, he acknowledges the realities that continue to shape his journey, including limited funding, lack of dedicated office infrastructure, and the need for further professional development opportunities.

“The community has been our biggest supporter. Their belief in what we do keeps us going, even when resources are limited,” he mentioned.

Zwane’s long-term vision is to build interconnected systems in which media, sports, and entrepreneurship work together to unlock opportunities for township youth.

As he continues to expand his footprint across South Africa’s creative and sports sectors, he is not only building brands but also actively contributing to a growing ecosystem of township-led innovation, representation, and economic participation.
