Kwa-Thema seniors celebrate active ageing through Sizanani Concert

Choirs from Kwa-Thema, Vosloorus, Thokoza, Duduza and other communities gathered for a concert celebrating older persons and their contributions.

Kwa-Thema – Kwa-Thema Society for the Care of the Aged held the Sizanani Concert for the elderly on May 27 at the HH Ngakane Hall.

The affiliated choirs that attended the event were Sizanani and Leratong from Kwa-Thema, Tshwaranang from Duduza, Novensi, Lindokuhle and Khayalethu from Vosloorus, Big 5 and Thokoza from Thokoza, Pull Together from Spruitview, and Tshepo ya Sechaba from Dawn Park.

Kwa-Thema Society for the Care of the Aged manager Sibongile Choba shared that the concert is seen as one of the ways to promote active ageing.

While the organisation is actively involved, the beneficiaries lead the project wholeheartedly.

She explained that the forum has become the backdrop for everything related to older persons, from addressing matters affecting them to celebrating their achievements.

“The concert was well received by the community; evidence of this was seen in the revenue generated from ticket sales. The choirs arrived on time to show their unwavering support.

“The event was filled with harmony and ululation from both the audience and participants,” said Choba.

Ward councillor Thulani Simelane was also part of the event and welcomed all the delegates.

The chairperson of the Gauteng Older Persons Forum and the Greater Ekurhuleni Choir Concert Fundraising Forum, Cynthia Nhlapo, and the chairperson of the Ekurhuleni Older Persons Forum, Mzimkhulu Khumalo, presented each choir with a participation certificate.

“The certificate presentation formed part of the concert and was done in recognition of the groundwork undertaken by the choirs before each event, and to encourage them to keep the spirit alive,” concluded the manager.
