Young Tsakani photographer turns passion into growing business
At just 19, student and aspiring photographer Kagiso Diphofa is building a name for himself through his media company.
Tsakani – At just 19 years old, Kagiso Diphofa is proving that age is no barrier to ambition. As a student and emerging photographer, he is steadily transforming his passion for photography into a growing local business by using his camera to tell stories.
Kagiso says his inspiration came from his grandfather who was a cameraman.
“He would around with his bicycle doing photography. Growing up in a home where there was a camera, watching him work planted something in me and developed my love for photography,” he said.
Kagiso’s had a goal of turning his passion into something meaningful and creating opportunities for himself which resulted in the creation of Kagiso Media.
“One of my biggest challenges has been getting opportunities and resources to grow my business while establishing myself as a young photographer,” he said.
Kagiso views photography as more than just taking beautiful pictures but rather about documenting milestones and making an impact in the community.

“My photography helps capture important community moments, promote local organisations and tell stories through media,” he said.
Kagiso shared how he manages to balance his studies with running his business.
“I manage my time carefully, making sure I focus on my education while creating time for photography and my clients,” he said.
He recalled his most memorable experience in photography was when he had the opportunity to work with a political party.
“Through media, I got to connect with the community, observe political engagement, and see how the party interacts with people.

“That experience helped me understand how powerful media can be in connecting organisations with their communities,” Kagiso said.
He believes what sets him apart from other photographers is his passion, creativity and willingness to continuously learn and improve.
“I see Kagiso Media growing into a recognised media brand, working with bigger organisations and creating opportunities for young creatives.
“My biggest dream is to grow my business into a successful media company that inspires young people and creates opportunities for others,” he said.
He offered words of advice to young people who want to pursue photography.
“Start with what you have, keep practicing, learn from your mistakes, and never allow your age to limit your dreams,” he concluded.
