Honouring indigenous knowledge, promoting community health

Stronger links created between traditional health practices and modern health awareness.

Kwa-Thema – The City of Ekurhuleni joined communities and traditional health practitioners to celebrate traditional African medicine and its rich heritage at Indaba Tree Heritage Park in Kwa-Thema on October 2.

The celebration provided a space for knowledge-sharing, health education and community dialogue, with traditional health practitioners sharing indigenous knowledge while encouraging residents to take charge of their health.

Important conversations took place around HIV/Aids, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis, with residents encouraged to know their status, seek care early and make informed health choices.

The day highlighted the value of preserving indigenous knowledge while creating stronger links between traditional health practices and modern health awareness.
